Lidded Redware Butter Crock with Profuse Manganese Decoration, American, possibly Southern or Mid-Atlantic origin, mid 19th century, with concave walls, footed base, and small lug handles, the surface decorated with heavy streaks of manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes original lid with matching glaze. Chips and wear to rim of crock. Light wear to handles. A lime ping on underside. Chips to edge of lid and chips and wear to flange on underside of lid. A chip to knob of lid. A 2 7/8" in-the-firing contact mark on top of lid. H (of crock to top of lid) 5 1/2" ; H (of crock) 3 1/4" ; Diameter (of crock) 6 3/4".
