Twelve-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif and Bridgeport, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a Federal eagle with shield and banner, freehand slashes, stripes, and flourishes, and a freehand "12" at base. Stenciled with the advertising "STAYER & BOLEY (?) / DEALERS IN / STAPLE & FANCY / GROCERIES / BRIDGEPORT, PA". Advertising pieces of this size are considered rare. Blurriness to stenciling. Small rim chip on reverse. H 21 1/2".
