Very Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON / PALATINE / W.VA.", circa 1875, semi-ovoid pitcher with tall, flaring collar, featuring Richey & Hamilton maker's stenciling with stenciled flourish at center. Elaborate stenciled floral motif on each side, featuring a rose, tulip, and bluebells. Freehand cobalt stripes to spout and along base of collar. Cobalt stripes to handle and highlights to handle terminals. The first pitcher by this maker we have ever offered. Provenance: Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor's parents decades ago. Large professional restoration to spout. A hairline across underside, extending 4 1/2" up left side of pitcher's front. Some very faint surface crazing to collar, not visible on interior. A minor in-the-firing base chip. H 10 7/8".
