Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Dog and Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A* GAY / UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1829, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a folky incised design of a standing dog, executed over a brushed floral motif. Dog designs from this period in American stoneware production are considered exceptionally rare. Excellent overall condition with some in-the-firing contact marks to surface and some minor base wear.
