Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, probably Manhattan, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower blossom with open petals and incised accents on the interior. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent condition with some lines on underside, probably in-the-firing, a few of which continue a very short distance onto base. H 14 1/2".
