Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "TROY, N.Y. / POTTERY", circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared rim, decorated with a folky slip-trailed design of a chicken with ringed neck and detailed body, standing atop a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Chips to interior of rim. Some shallow chipping and wear to inner rim where lid rests. Lid with two hairlines, three chips, and some wear to knob.
