Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Star-Shaped Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON. VT.", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a spotted daisy with heavily-shaded petals surrounded by six rays. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. This striking decoration is highly unusual in the work of the Norton family. Excellent condition with a base chip, minor base nick, and some light staining.
