Fine and Scarce Shenandoah Valley Redware Vase, Stamped "WINCHESTER VA", Round Hill Pottery, Winchester, VA, circa 1930, ovoid vase with flared collar featuring a coggled column design, the exterior and interior surfaces covered in a streaky lead glaze. Excellent mottled coloration, ranging from yellow to reddish-brown based upon the concentration of the glaze. The majority of known Round Hill Pottery pieces feature darker, drabber glazes, making this vase particularly appealing. The underside is impressed with an early, difficult-to-find Round Hill Pottery maker's mark, which reads simply "WINCHESTER VA". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased decades ago in New Market, MD. A tight 3 1/4" inverted Y-shaped line from rim, visible on exterior and partially visible on interior. A second 2 1/2" hairline from rim. H 7 3/4".
