Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Double-Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT", circac 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with boldly-slip-trailed design of two crossed birds perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Jug is broken and reglued with the majority of the damage visible on the jug's right side. Sliver-shaped losses along cracks in spout and shoulder. An additional small hole along one crack line.
