Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Game Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER JR. / ROCHESTER. NY", circa 1885, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with slip-trailed design of a crested game bird with turned head and well-detailed body, perched on a tree stump. Slip-trailed number 6 to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Left handle with restored and unpainted handle. Two cracks on front extending from rim to shoulder area. Reverse with a 9 3/4" vertical crack from rim, and a second diagonal crack extending from rim to shoulder. Some fry to cobalt. A 1 7/8" filled chip to interior of rim. Chips to inner rim where a lid would rest. H 19 1/2".
