Early and Unusual Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders", Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1965, squat-shaped jug with applied face including glazed, crooked eyes and mouth and protruding ears. Unusual incised sideburn decoration to right side of face only. Surface covered in an olive-colored alkaline glaze. Lightly-incised "Lanier Meaders" on underside. Impressive form. Two spots of glaze loss to bottom lip, a spot of glaze loss to bottom of one eyelid, and a spot of glaze loss to right ear. H 9 1/2".
