Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Double Game Bird Decoration, Stamped "HUBBELL & CHESEBRO / GEDDES, NY", circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with artistically-rendered, slip-trailed design of two game birds perched on a stump. Excellent folk art depiction with large eyes and heavily striped and spotted details to birds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An outstanding work by the popular Geddes, NY partnership. Significant all-over cobalt touch-up to decoration. Restoration to entire underside. Additional restoration to base and left side of jug.
