Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large and artistic slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing two different blossoms. Excellent shaded and cross-hatched details to decoration. Slip-trailed "6." above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Excellent overall condition. Some faint spider lines in surface of underside, not visible on interior. Two small in-the-firing contact marks to right side of crock near base. Some light water glass staining to surface and additional water glass staining to interior. A minor in-the-firing base chip on reverse. H 14 1/2".
