Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & Co / ROCHESTER. NY", circa 1845, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a daisy plant extending from a stem flanked by leaves. Excellent slip-trailed details throughout, including spots to the center of the blossom and shaded tip to the leaves and petals. Slip-trailed number 2 at shoulder. Excellent decoration and color. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark. An approximately 9 1/4" inverted Y-shaped hairline on left side of jar's front. A 5" vertical surface on left side of jar, not visible on interior. A small in-the-firing contact mark to front.
