One-Gallon "DEMUTH'S SNUFF" Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jar, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG", PA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt inscription "DEMUTH'S / CELEBRATED / SNUFF ESTABLISHED / 1770 / LANCASTER, PA.". Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Includes original salt-glazed lid. Provenance; David Musser Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (of jar) 9".
