Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO, / PA.", circa 1875, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and lug handles, decorated with stylized stenciled foliate designs below the firm name "HAMILTON & JONES". Base with stenciled number 3 flanked by small stenciled flowers. Rim, shoulder, and base with freehand cobalt stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 2 5/8" loss to rim on front. Chips to handles. An approximately 5 3/4", thin inverted T-shaped crack from rim on side of jar, extending through handle. Traces of white paint to surface, primarily on left side of churn.
