One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled and Freehand Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jar with flattened rim, decorated with a stenciled foliate motif with freehand stripes above and below. Literature: Illustrated in William C. Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, Henry Holf and Company, New York, 1991, p. 7. A recessed in-the-firing contact mark on reverse. A 3 1/4" hairline from rim on reverse, extending through a glazed-over rim chip on reverse.
