Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a leaf, accented by dotted trails. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark. E & L P Norton stoneware pieces of this size are difficult to find with their classic bird motif. Glazed-over lines to handle. A small U-shaped crack to top of spout. Minor wear to interior of spout. A 3/4" surface chip to side of jug.
