Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.", Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, with footed base and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated around the body with a series of graduated swags. Brushed floral motif surrounding opening at shoulder. Impressed with R.C.R. maker's mark at base. Provenance: David Musser Collection. A 1 3/4" chip to underside at edge. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 4 1/4" ; Diameter 7 1/4".
