Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Heart and Centennial Date, Stamped "HAIDLE & ZIPF / UNION POTTERY / NEWARK, N.J.", 1876, cylindrical jug with short, semi-rounded spout, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design of a heart accented with stripes and spots, surrounding the date 1876. Slip-trailed "1." below spout. Excellent decoration and size. Drilled lamp wire hole at base on reverse, above a small in-the-firing iron ping. A small chip and light wear to interior of spout. H 11 1/2".
