Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath and 1872 Date, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.", 1872, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a wreath accented with spots, surrounding the date "1872". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Desirable decoration and impressive large size to jug. Very nice condition. Two minor chips to interior of rim. A few in-the-firing surface lines to handle, the longest running along the top of the handle and measuring approximately 4 1/2". A minor area of surface wear to left side of jug. H 17".
