Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Stamped "P. CROSS / HARTFORD", Connecticut origin, circa 1806-1808, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and ribbed handle, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a curved stem bearing leaves. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark and handle terminals. Exceptional color for this maker. Heavy salting to base. Two gritty-textured, in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder. Shallow chipping to interior of spout and a small spout chip on reverse. H 15".
