Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a leaf. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A chip to end of one handle, along with a minor nick to same handle. Some wear and a minor chip to opposite handle. A 1/2" rim chip on side of crock. Other minor rim chips. A glazed-over line on interior of rim, extending to shoulder on interior. Some small flakes to reverse. Light staining to surface.
