Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Pheasant Decoration, Stamped "J & E NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, crest, and long tail, perched on a stylized branch. Paint associated with restoration covering the majority of the crock's surface. Handles have also been painted, although the extent of their restoration is unknown. Restoration includes some blue paint applied to form the neck of the pheasant, as well as possible touch-up to the bird's crest, and some clear varnish over decoration.
