Extremely Rare Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Water Cooler with Nashville, Tennessee Advertising, Stamped "A. RUSSELL / BEAVER, PA", circa 1875-1885, ovoid cooler with flared rim, ribbed lug handles, and rectangular bung hole, featuring the large stenciled cobalt advertising, "TURNER BRO'S / GROCERS / NASHVILLE". Freehand swag decoration to shoulder, base, and flanking the merchant stenciling. A. Russell maker's mark at shoulder. Includes old wooden spigot, marked "CZECHOSLOVAKIA". The pedestal-based water cooler form is considered scarce in its own right. The addition of Southern advertising on this example makes it exceptionally rare. Missing pedestal base. One handle with chips and a 1 1/2" crack. A few short, tight lines to surface, the largest being a Y-shaped line on reverse, measuring 4". None of these lines appear to extend through to the interior. A 3/8" iron ping to reverse. H 12 1/2".
