Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Yale Mug with Impressed Figural Designs, Incised "AK CHITTENDEN / Yale / 1900", Yale University, New Haven, CT, 1900, tapered mug with applied handle, decorated with a series of impressed and cobalt-highlighted figural designs, including several human face profiles, a dog, children, a girl praying, and a man with woman. Incised inscription on underside. Yale mugs with cobalt decoration are significantly rarer than their Albany-slip-glazed counterparts. This example features appealing decoration and excellent color. Professionally-restored U-shaped crack from rim, possibly a reglued section, which extends through the male and female profiles on the far left of the mug. H 4 1/2".
