Two-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Fylfot Decoration, probably New Jersey origin, circa 1800, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and applied loop handles, decorated with a brushed fylfot motif at the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Later, 3/4" tall notation, "9L", carved into clay under handle. In-the-firing slump to rim on reverse. A salt drip on reverse obscures a second cobalt design. Two rim chips and a few minor rim nicks. Reverse with a 5" hairline from rim with tiny sliver missing along crack line. Heavy chipping to base.
