Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim and heavily-ribbed lug handles, the surface covered in a streaky whitish slip and decorated on the front and reverse with a large spotted tulip motif. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark under one handle. Some restoration to rim and underside. A restored 7" crack extending up from base, which forms an unrestored hairline that extends into the tulip blossom.
