Rare Lidded Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and narrow, flared opening, the surface covered in a streaky whitish slip and decorated with six folky hanging tulips around the body. Jar includes original wheel-thrown lid with rounded knob and celadon-glazed surface. Excellent decoration and unusual Bell tulip variant. Bell's canning jar forms are rarely found with cobalt decoration of this quality. Jar in excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing dry spot to front. Lid with minor nicks to edge. H (including lid) 8 1/2".
