Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "C, VAUPEL / POTTERY. / 388 WALLABOUT ST / BROOKLYN", New York City origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed daisy extending from a leafy stem. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Glazed-over, in-the-firing surface on underside, not visible on interior. Restoration to rim and shoulder area on right side of jar, extending onto handle. While the entire top of the handle is painted, the extent of the restoration is unclear. Some light paint residue on the front of the rim is unrelated to any restoration.
