Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S,A PETERSON / 333 BROADWAY / BROOKLYN", New York City origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tall, flaring collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird with crest, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A faint 3 1/4" Y-shaped line to side of jar. A chip to exterior of rim, a few chips to interior of rim, and chipping to inner rim for lid.
