Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. INGELL & CO. TAUNTON. MASS", circa 1835-1845, tapered churn with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front with a two-stemmed tulip plant design and on the reverse with a freehand cobalt "2" surrounded by flourishes. Impressed with rare J.W. Ingell maker's mark below rim on reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. 6" crack from rim on front. 2 1/2" crack from rim on side of churn. Rim chips, primarily on interior of rim.
