Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "F T WRIGHT & SON / TAUNTON MASS," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with oversized crest, perched on a stump surrounded by shrubs and including a long dotted trail. Light cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. A small chip to one handle. A small piece of adhered in-the-firing clay to top of rim. A thin 3 1/2" crack from base. Minor staining. H 9 1/4".
