Glazed Redware Jar with Manganese Decoration, Norwalk, CT or Huntington, Long Island, New York origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tall collar, and applied handles, the surface heavily-decorated with alternating bands of straight and wavy incised lines. Decorated throughout with haphazard manganese daubs and covered in a lead glaze. Excellent form and color. Provenance: Collected in the Long Island, New York area. Wear and some shallow chipping to rim. A shallow 1 1/8" base chip. Other minor, shallow chips to base. A small shallow chip to one handle. Some minor wear to shoulder molding. A small in-the-firing contact mark to one side and a small stone ping under one handle. H 10 1/4".
