Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT.," circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a very large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized spotted branch or banner. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent color and form. Design measures an impressive 12" long. Some fry to heavier areas of cobalt.
