Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with large fan-shaped blossom and two buds. Slip-trailed "3" at shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Exfoliation to surface on bottom half of jar's front. Additional exfoliation to reverse. A 3" hairline from rim on jar's front. A thin 6" crack from rim on reverse. Underside with some exfoliation and a chip near edge of jar. Some staining. Some wear to interior.
