Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Foliate Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER. JR / ROCHESTER. N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plant with dotted stems and heavily-shaded leaves. Slip-trailed "2" at shoulder. cobalt highlight to maker's mark. 4 1/2" and 3 1/4" cracks from rim on side of crock. A 3/4" relatively minor surface separation in rim on side of crock, which occurred in the firing. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse.
