Three-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Bold Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & CO LYONS," New York State origin, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a tulip with spotted blossom, flanked by two 3's. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and maker's mark. Strong decoration with excellent color. Some exfoliation to rim of jar, visible on side and reverse. Thin 4" crack from rim on reverse. 1 1/4" iron ping to interior of rim. Long Y-shaped crack at base on front, continuing across underside and 3/4" onto base on side of jar. Three small, glazed-over iron pings.
