One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "N CLARK. JR ATHENS," New York State origin, circa 1845, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a crescent-shaped leaf design on the front and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and lower handle terminal. Essentially as-made condition with in-the-firing flaws as follows: two in-the-firing contact marks to front, one of which has an adhered piece of clay, an iron ping to shoulder, and a contact mark with iron residue at base.
