Fine Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Inscription, "C. Fox / 1841," New York State origin, 1841, approximately three-quart to one-gallon, ovoid jug featuring the cobalt name and date, "C. Fox / 1841", in large characters across the front. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Possibly made by, or for a relative of, Ethan S. Fox, active in Athens, NY, circa 1838-1843. Desirable size with strong color. Excellent condition with minor wear to interior of spout, some minuscule wear to exterior of spout, and an in-the-firing darker area of clay on left side. H 9".
