Four-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Large Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS / BINGHAMTON, NY," circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt design of a double-stemmed poppy plant with detailed blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Chipping to one handle. A shallow chip, a minor rub, and short horizontal line in opposite handle. A shallow 1 3/8" chip on exterior of rim and a minor chip on interior of rim. A faint 2 1/2" Y-shaped line near base on reverse, not visible on interior. A faint 3" diagonal surface line to right of decoration, not visible on interior. Some very light exfoliation to surface, primarily on reverse.
