Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, possibly R.J. Grier, Chester County, PA, with footed base and carved circular opening at shoulder, decorated with brushed swags around the body. Of interesting note is the fact that the oval piece of clay, cut to form the shoulder opening, still remains adhered to the interior of the spittoon. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 4" ; Diameter 9 3/4".
