Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Star-Shaped Floral Motif, Stamped "J MORTON / JORDAN," New York State origin, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tapered spout, the front decorated with four-petaled design resembling a star, embellished dots and foliate sprays at each corner. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual maker's mark with good decoration. Essentially as-made condition with a contact mark to front, a few short lines at base, and a glazed-over 3/8" base chip, all of which appear to be in-the-firing.
