Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & CO. / BINGHAMTON," New York State origin, circa 1866-1868, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a crested bird with turned head and long tail, perched on the stem of a flowering vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Restoration to rim on front. Some fairly unobtrusive bubbling to cobalt. Chip on interior of rim. One minor handle chip and minor wear to opposite handle. Flaking to reverse. 4” crack from rim on reverse.
