Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS / BINGHAMTON, NY," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a very large slip-trailed bird with unusual hollow wing, perched on the stem of a flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. In-the-firing crack at base of handle, as well as two in-the-firing cracks emanating from base of handle. Some spots of fry to darker areas of cobalt. Some staining. 2" narrow chip to underside/base on reverse, with a 1" line extending upward from it. A 1 1/2" line extending upward from base on reverse.
