Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT.," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with pronounced squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird with long tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Long, fairly-tight crack on underside, which forms an S and extends approximately 7 1/2" up reverse. Traces of old white paint to spout.
