Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Bird-and-Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & CO. / GEDDES, NY," circa 1860, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a looping vine with two flowers extending to the left. Excellent, heavily-striped detail to flower blossoms. Bird with striped body and brushed detail to wing. Slip-trailed "2" with flourish to bird's right. An unusually-small-sized churn. Scarce form for this desirable Farrar design. Significant restoration to rim and surface, including some touch-up to cobalt below bird. A chip to each handle.
