Scarce Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an unusual circular foliate design surrounding star-shaped stenciling. Shoulder and base with freehand cobalt stripes. Base with stenciled "6" flanked by finely-stenciling flourishes. A well-decorated and crisply-stenciled example. Very nice condition with minor wear to the end of one handle, grease stain to underside, and a second grease stain with very light area of exfoliation near base on reverse.
