Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Federal Eagle Decoration, Inscribed "STAR POTTERY," Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim with wax sealer interior, the front decorated with a stenciled Federal eagle holding a banner inscribed "Star Pottery". Brushed cobalt stripes below rim and at base. Desirable decoration and form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in Western Pennsylvania. Stained 4 1/2" Y-shaped hairline on reverse. Slumped rim. Small chip on interior of wax sealer rim. H 9 1/2".
