Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "J. HAMILTON," Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with incised banding around midsection, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed vine design at the shoulder, unusual segmented stripes at the shoulder and midsection, additional stripes throughout, and a "4" flanked by shorter stripes. Three very minor chips on interior of rim. 1 1/2" flake to top of rim. Chip to end of one handle. Some staining.
